As an interdisciplinary project platform we organize an evening two to three times each semester in which five representatives from a variety of disciplines come together to illuminate the evening’s main subject from their research perspectives or in relation to their artistic work. To do so each individual is given 10 minutes. No questions can be asked, but following the presentations informal exchange is encouraged over drinks.

This format is based on the teaching and event concepts of Teresa Geisler. She has examined the above mentioned subjects “Pain”, “Mixed emotions – schadenfreude, horror films and humour” and “Consciousness – myth of mystery?” in the manner of a Socratic dialogue in the framework of her courses. A special Streitgespräch event involving philosophers is currently in the works.

Instead external, for the most part well known guests are invited. In this way speakers can take the stage who already have a national or international reputation for their work on the boundaries of different disciplines. The basic idea is, however, the same: artists and researchers enter into dialogue with one another. In the past this has given rise to two further Hybrid Plattform event series – “Hybrid Encounters”, in collaboration with the Schering Stiftung, and “Hybrid Futures”, in collaboration with the Futurium.

  • Pecha Kucha

The well known Pecha Kucha lecture technique works extremely well as an event format, when the goal is to provide a vivid impression of a broad range of disciplines. Speakers present 20 slides and can speak up to 20 seconds per slide. In just under 7 minutes the audience is provided a glimpse into a specific research field, a scientific or artistic project or a subject. Always informative, the event is often even more compelling than a lecture of the same length as the rapid succession of slides is so dynamic ...
