Improbots workshop / Vorspiel transmediale & CTM

On the first of February the Parallax Lab and Vorspiel Transmediale & CTM offer a workshop at our Hybrid Lab exploring different questions around robotics and mechatronics.

Do robots always have to follow the same design?
How can we get hands-on with emerging technologies?
Do washing machines count as robots?
Can mundane objects have a different use?

These are some of the questions that IMPROBOTS explore as part of a venture in critical making, where we analyze some of the elements from mechatronics with a hands-on practice.
The workshop will consist in a short theoretical part and a longer practical one.
First, we will look at different examples of automated machines and their foundational elements in order to come closer to what we know today as "robots".
Afterwards, we'll get hands-on with the experimentation of batteries and motors with odd materials in order to come up with a kinetic system based on random improvisation and careful application.
Get ready for :: soldering > charging > assembling > failing > doubting > creating > sharing >
All participants will receive an e-mail prior to the workshop with further details and suggested readings for preparation.
