Toneful Talk

It was again time for the Hybrid Talks – this 33rd issue was all about “Sound”: As usual we invited speakers from TU Berlin und UdK to bring in their expertise into the Hybrid Lab and present their work or their standpoint on the topic.

The spectrum of speakers was quite diverse: With Prof. Hans Peter Kuhn there was a professor present, who is a lecturer for the Sound Studies- study programme at UdK but at the same time also a sound artist with an impressive history in collaborations and participation in international exhibitions. Prof. Stefan Weinzierl – the second speaker of the night and familiar for everyone who is a regular attendee of our talks – introduced us into the field of acoustic simulation of not yet built concert halls. Prof. Eleanor Forbes gave us an impressive insight and depiction of the physiological processes in the throat that take place when a person sings or speaks: She also engaged the audience, for which all were encouraged to practice different vocal exercises with her. Dr. Jochen Steffens – just like Stefan Weinzierl being part of the department of audio communications – showed us quite convincingly, which possibilities companies are considering with different sound techniques, for example to give their products value or to charge them with other characteristics, such as sportiness, etc. The evening ended with a lecture by Felipe Sánchez Luna, a member of the creative studio klingklangklong, who presented various projects of this collective, all of which are located in the field of sound art.

After Stefan Weinzierl, who also moderated the evening, had thanked the speakers and had already pointed to the next Hybrid Talks in January with the topic "Creativity", all participants could talk to each other over a glass of mulled wine and biscuits and let the evening slowly end.
