The “Green Revisited: Encountering Emerging Naturecultures” (GREEN) project's main objective is to develop a European platform to shape and popularize an emerging “naturecultures” paradigm via the arts, as well as to strengthen an international network committed to enhancing criticality by investigating the pervasive greenness trope.
It is connectected to the RIXC – Center for new media culture. Together their mission is to foster new discourses on “naturecultures” capable of overcoming the dualism between the human and nature by ‘ungreening’ the pervasively used notion ‘green’ and reconsidering the current understanding of ‘green’ as synonymous of the ‘natural’. The project is Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union and one of the people behind it is the curator Jens Hauser, who recently contributed to our publication on "Hybrid Encounters in the arts and sciences. A dialogue".
GREEN is building a new European media art and culture platform for critical discussions, artistic interventions and transcultural dialogue addressing the complexity of our relations with the environment.
By developing GREEN think tank on European level, their goal is to create a shared knowledge platform that facilitates the development and testing of new hybrid business models for emerging artists and cultural workers.
Larger scale events and professional gatherings such as conferences which were organized with a main purpose to reach new audiences and to explore the new “natureculture” paradigm that suggests to bridge the historically developed gap between “nature” and “culture” already took part in the last two years.
By an active involvement of all the participants in organizational and exchange activities they reach to support the creation of new artworks and to maintain the circulation of artworks transnationally that would reach wider public.
Therefor they have an open call at the moment to apply for the OPEN FIELDS Online Conference until June 20, 2020. Proposals from artists, scientists, doctoral researchers and experts from different academic disciplines and professional fields are welcome to then take part at the 5th Open Fields conference on Artistic Research, Science and Technologies and RIXC Art Science Festival 2020 – October 8–10, 2020 in Riga.
This year's festival is a collaboration with "Ecodata" research project that explores the role and significance of new media, technologies and technoscientific methods in the arts for the perception and awareness of the ecological. The festival will feature the "Ecodata – Ecomedia – Ecoaesthetics" exhibition and symposium with outstanding keynote talks by scientists and artists, as well as the annual Open Fields conference, public performance programme, participatory workshops, and artistic interventions by young and emerging artists.
