Time flows, stops, rushes by, goes backwards, simply passes – or does not move at all.
It can be measured in centuries, days, nanoseconds or other units. Time provides a method of classification in historical terms, has relevance for physical experiments and also constitutes a crucial element for our psychological behavior. One can play with time and speed it up or slow it down in motion images. In all genres of art time plays a central role in the (visual) narration and is reflected on in certain subjects through symbolism and picture language. A great part of sciences are based solely on accurate determination of dates, assessments of chronological order or exact categorisation of time and its intervals. The diverse dimensions of time and its relevance to the individual, the sciences and art will be our topic for the 24th Hybrid Talks.

Following speakers will address the topic (lectures in German language):

  • “Time of the Algorithms”
    Prof. Dr. Bernd M. Scherer

Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW)

  • “Flowing and Cutting. Experimenting Time through Rhythm”
    Prof. Dorothea Weise

UdK Berlin | Institute of music pedagogy

  • “The Enigma of Time: Irreversibility in Physics”
    Prof. Dr. Eckehard Schöll

TU Berlin | Institute of Theoretical Physics

  • “‘Spirits closing their Eyes’ - About the Duration of Memories”
    Prof. Nina Fischer

UdK Berlin | Experimental film and media art

  • “How our Actions Influence the Perception of Time; Predictions about the Perception of Time when Using Technological Devices”
    Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nele Rußwinkel

    TU Berlin | Center Human-Maschine-Systems

The Hybrid Talks aim at promoting mutual inspiration and invite networking. Representatives of different disciplines encounter each other and share their perspectives on the topic “Time” through short ten minute presentations. After the presentations we will continue our exchange across individual disciplines in a relaxed atmosphere.
